The reserve and Field Centre
are popular with school groups looking for a varied and interesting
educational visit.
A normal visit would cover two 'topics' in the morning, and
two in the afternoon. A typical group of 30 children, divided
into four groups, would cover various aspects of the chosen
field of study. Study periods will generally involve field
work, and follow-up work in the Field Centre.
A varied programme of tuition is available, including environmental
sciences, botany, zoology, palaeontology, geology and astronomy.
Programmes can be tailored to the needs of teachers, and are
designed to match the needs of the national curriculum.
The Field Centre has facilities to suit all ages, levels
and abilities, and is equipped for disabled access. There
is also a picnic area, toilet and shop. If wet, the entire
programme can be held indoors.
Charges for school visits are £2.00 per student. Teachers
and class-room assistants are admitted without charge. The
cost includes warden assistance and full facilities.
